No More Film

I’m a little embarassed to admit that while I shoot only digital for my photography, I have never made the jump to a digital point and shoot camera for snapshots… that’s why it takes me FOREVER to upload and post snapshots… I just never get around to scanning in the prints. It’s sad, I know.

So yesterday I finally bit the bullet and bought a digital camera to carry in my pocket… the big things I was looking for were portability and image quality. I don’t like to buy camera or video equipment without trying it out first, so I decided to tour basically every electronics store in Manhattan#–this took me ALL OVER the island. I will warn you that Friday is a bad day to buy a camera in New York#–all the major camera stores close early on Fridays (like 1PM or 2PM)… how ridiculous is that?

After making the rounds, I decided on a Lumix DMC-FX07.

It’s small, I loved the image quality, and it has enough manual settings to satisfy my needs. No one needs a camera over 7 mega-pixels for snapshots (you can blow that up over 8×10 before it starts looking fuzzy) so I found it to be perfect… plus it has a Leica lens, and the brown model I bought looks SNAZZY. AND it turns out the camera can shoot short HD movies. I haven’t tried that yet, but I’m sure I’ll find time.

I was even more pleased when I got home and looked up the reviews for the camera online and found all of them to be uber-positive. Now I just need a subject for some snapshots… beer garden here I come!
