This post will be a quicky:
The reading for One Life to Live went well today, and they’ve asked me to come back for a producer’s session on Wednesday#–since I’ll be meeting the producer of the show, I was told to dress a little more "up" than I dressed today (no jeans). I met Julie Madison, the head of casting for OLTL today#–she seemed very busy, and understandably so: while I was there she must have taken twelve phone calls. I’ll be sure to post updates after Wednesday…

Rehearsal for the Christmas show went well tonight. I was nervous about the improv again, but brought some ideas with me and tried to find a sense of play in the work I was doing. It’s so easy to get "serious" about rehearsal (after all, you want to do well, produce art, etc, etc, etc) and forget to find the joy in what you’re doing. At least I’ve found that to be the case. So tonight, I focused on finding fun things to do in the scenes: physically, responsively, and vocally. The results were sort of surprising. We had scheduled about an hour and a half to work on the scenes for tonight, but the work went so well that we were able to knock off twenty minutes early!
The best part of the rehearsal was the relationship built between my character Ben (Ms. Scrooge’s former boyfriend) and the grumpy lady herself. We went with my previous notion of Ben being a sort of granola, grassroots social justice dude (who helps run a thirft store to benefit the homeless) and that lead to a really interesting dynamic as they meet, fall in love, and ultimately decide they’re not right together. All of the actors in the scene were making fun, interesting choices, so it was just a fun experience overall.

Since it’s Halloween, and I had some time to kill, I wandered in the West Village for a little while. Oh. My. God. That place is INSANE on Halloween. The annual Halloween Parade was gearing up and millions of people, dressed in various degrees of craziness were roaming the streets in various degrees of drunkeness and/or Halloween inspired glee. In the midst of the cloying hubbub, I ran into a girl I went to college with and haven’t seen since 1998. Crazy! What are the odds? Seriously? In THAT crowd of people, in THIS city, I ran into a person I haven’t seen in 7-8 years, recognized her, and REMEMBERED her NAME? Yow. I’m serious, I would like to know the statistical probability of that happening.
So the rest of my Halloween, as boring as it may sound, will be spent in front of the computer, and then going to bed early. It’s been a long, great, and strange day.

Cool on your meeting and rehearsal! Break a leg! Looking forward to reading your progress.
