I’m in a funk. Why? Because I’ve got nothing to do. It’s a problem I run into now and again#–once I’ve finished the run of a play, or a shoot, or writing a script, I return to this funk. I’m just uncomfortable with relaxing. Isn’t that strange?
When I was a kid, I remember never really finding myself with nothing to do#–when I was using the bathroom, I would stare at the patterns in the tile floor, imagining shapes and objects from the markings. They would come to life in my head, run around, talk: whole scenes played out for me to watch. My mom always wondered what took me so long#–nothing really, I just wanted to finish watching the story that was unfolding in the tile. When I think about that now, two things come to mind: A) Why wasn’t I on Ritalin? and B) Why isn’t my mind as active now? When I stare at tile now, I see things like poor workmanship, bad grout, and mildew.
I wonder if all artists don’t feel this way#–maybe it’s what leads so many to abusing alcohol and drugs. This… plodding, feverish, uncomfortable span of time between bouts of creativity. I don’t want to start another screenplay just for the sake of doing something. That would ultimately lead to bad writing, and a bad experience doing it. On the plus side, things around the apartment are very clean and tidy. My check book is balanced. My clothes are all laundered, folded, and sorted by color. The bed is made. My email correspondance is up to date.
I’m going nuts.
I think I’m going to go have some film developed, maybe take a stroll through a museum.
What do you do in your spare time? That’s sort of what I’m missing, I guess…

Hm, in my spare time I sew, read, hang out with Casey, call my friends and family, take photographs, play with my dog, and design the inside of the new house. But all of my spare time will begin to get filled with school, homework, and theatre starting the 17th of this month.
Question: How do I find out requirements for colleges?
You contact their admissions departments and ask for an information packet. Then, after you’ve read them, you call back and speak with an admissions rep asking how best to go about making your apllication packet as enticing as possible. Email me the schools you are interested in and we can start contacting them.
The ACT and SAT are important! Make sure to start studying for them now, and take it multiple times. They only take your best score, so the more times you take them, the better you chance on getting the best score possible.
Baby#– you are so funny. When ever you do have a temporary job or a few days in a row of soap work, you get so frustrated that you don’t have time to do other things. Then life gives you a break to catch up on all the dailly stuff and actually work on things you want to and you get bored eventually. Chill out. Enjoy having time. AND get back into the Artist’s Way you slacker! It will help inspire your creativity!! Love you#–Holland
