I’ve often given the opinion that the reason plays are expensive to mount in NY is because of the theatre rental costs#–the real estate part of the deal. An article in the business section of the New York Times exclaims just that. Toilet paper? Really? That is not included?

Well, I think what the problem is with New York City, is that people there think that it is the greatest city in the United States so therefore everything should cost more. You see, in Nixa, to go see a play or musical at our high school (a great play or musical I might add) it costs you, at the most, $8. In New York, however, it costs from $25-$65 (ball park figure). Now, why is it so much better in New York City, than in Nixa. I’d rather live in Nixa, which I do, because the people here are nice, well most of them, and we care more about the qualitly of the performance, not who’s in it or what building it is held in and who will be attending. This is why we have people in the world who think they are SO much better than everyone else because of where they live. Okay, I am done.
Unlike my best friend, I thikn it would be well worth it to pay $100 for a broadway performance, especially some of the really fantastic ones! I would also like to remind said best friend that we will be living in New York in 2 years so she better get used to it!
Well, if you’re smart, you can get discounts. I’m seeing Hal Holbrook’s Mark Twain show tomorrow (on Broadway) for $3. No, there’s not a decimal missing. I did mean $3. I’m going with Rick Dines, who found a sweet deal on tickets.
