the strand bookstore

today i went to the Strand Bookstore and bought three books:

True and False : Heresy and Common Sense for the Actor

True and False: Heresy and Common Sense for the Actor
by David Mamet

A Practical Handbook for the Actor
A Practical Handbook for the Actor
by multiple authors

Fargo
Fargo
by Joel and Ethan Coen

I’ve actually read the first two (several times) but wanted to return to them…when i feel i’m getting a little into my head as an actor, these two books remind me about the simple, simple virtues of action. i will post reviews soon…

Hey i have the second one! I’m working on “The Theater and Its Double” by Antonin Artaud, but I haven’t decided if I like it or not yet. Also, simply because I am an over-achiever and am way ahead of the game does not mean your sister has to be as anal-retentive as I am about college entrance exams. Oh, and you still owe me a putt-putt rematch Mr. Coleman!

  2. Larey (Lynsey) says:

    Thankyouverymuch Taryn.
Nick, when are you coming back to Missouri?, how are the auditions going?, and Michele and I will beat you SO badly at putt-putt!

  3. If you haven’t read “Practical Handbook”, it’s really excellent. But you almost have to forget you read it when you go into a training program#–everything they teach you contradicts what’s in the book. But it’s a good second perspective…

  4. The auditions are going well! I’m working on getting an agent, and have several prospects#–right now BRS is my top pick, but there’s still other agents to meet there before they decide whether they want to rep me. I’m up for Putt-Putt as soon as I’m in town! I’m not sure when that will be yet as I’m still lining work up…
