well, we’ve started submitting to film festivals. or, to be more precise, we’ve put together our submission materials so we can submit to festivals. it works like this: you can’t just send a video tape with your movie on it…you have to submit pictures, bios, script, video, anecdotes, press coverage…all kinds of things. and then, of course, you’ve got to include the entry fee. a quick search reveals 147 festivals that we can choose from: that’s just a partial sampling that does not include festivals who aren’t accepting submissions right now. the average entry fee is around $25#–so if we entered all of them that would be $3,675 in entry fees alone (doesn’t include postage, reproducing the materials, etc). so you can see how an indy producer has to be a little choosy on which festival he tries to enter#–but the anxiety occurs when you think "what if i enter the wrong ones!"
that’s where vetting the festivals comes into play (you know, research, the kind of thing that would have Dan Rather still delivering the nightly news). there’s a great website repository of all things film festival called Without A Box that we’re using to help in the matter, but it still falls on our shoulders to make sure the festival matches our movie: it wouldn’t do to send the Suburban Seven to a kids’ fest, would it?

Nick,
Nicole and I would like to sit down and talk to you about your film, and, of course, your ability to encode our news stories into Quicktime files. Woo hoo!
Dan
Okeydokey.
